Prologue
Twenty years ago, a secret experiment in Pavlovo unleashed a curse that devoured the world. Cities fell, nature reclaimed the ruins, and humanity scattered into shadows. Now the jungle rules, the infected hunt, and every survivor fights for one thing, another day alive.

The Cursed DayZ Prologue
We aim to make the world as immersive, coherent and alive as possible for everyone. This is why we've created stories, chapters and lore for our DayZ server.
Prologue
Twenty years ago, the world as we knew it vanished.
It started in the heart of Chernarus, an unmarked bio-research facility in Pavlovo operating under black-budget funding. They were developing something meant to end wars before they began, a genetically-engineered virus designed to incapacitate entire populations without firing a single shot. Like most weapons built in secrecy and arrogance it spiralled out of control.
The virus, code-named ”The Curse” leaked. Whether through sabotage or carelessness, no one knows. What’s certain is that it spread fast. First the animals changed hyper-aggressive, resistant to pain. Finally, it crossed into humans, making them thirsty for blood and craving human flesh. Cities fell in weeks, governments collapsed and communication lines went dead.
The world descended into chaos.
The infection didn’t just kill, it warped. Survivors watched their friends and family turn into mutated horrors, some mindless, others unnervingly intelligent. Civilization was over and humanity scattered.
Now, two decades later, nature rules the Island. The jungle has consumed concrete, metal and wood. Vines twist through the bones of once-great cities. Massive trees split highways in half. Humidity chokes the air and strange sounds echo through the bush at night, some natural, some not.
But all was not lost, small pockets of survivors endure, carving out tenuous lives in this hostile world. Some have built fortified trader enclaves, offering rare goods, weapons and equipment for those brave enough to scavenge the jungle. These hubs are the last flickers of organized society, but trust is thin and resources thinner.
Beyond the trader zones lies the true jungle. Bandits that will shoot on sight rule the wild draped in camouflage and cruelty. Some work for profit while others just for the thrill. They don't negotiate and they don’t hesitate. If you see them first SHOOT and you just might live.
And then there are the survivors, loners and ragtag crews digging through ancient crash sites, military ruins and locked bunkers. They search for gear, for answers and most of all to try and find a cure to The Curse.
Whispers tell of Locked Bunkers called “DNA Rooms” half-swallowed by the jungle. Its parts can be found scattered in crashed supply drops hidden on the Island, If you can find them you might just unlock the mysteries that lie within.
But nothing comes easy in The Cursed DayZ.
Toxic gas zones poison the air and crashed helicopters attract infected hordes of desperate scavengers. Hostile animals twisted by the virus stalk the bush. Strange anomalies flicker in the mist, remnants of tech that should’ve never existed.
And worst of all... the jungle watches. And it remembers.
You are among the few who still draw breath.
Some will choose to build, laying the groundwork for a new society. Others will hunt, fish, taking what they need with bullets and blades. And some will simply survive, one breath at a time.
Whatever path you walk, remember:
This is not a second chance, This is the Curse we live with.
